History of Iota Omega
In the late 1960s, Daphne Lynch Moss enrolled at the campus of Texas State University formally known as "South West Texas". Amongst the campus there were very few African American students and even fewer African American organizations established at the University. Daphne Moss discovered she could be initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., through the University of Texas Epsilon Beta Chapter.
Upon Soror Moss return to SWT and she generated much interest for Delta and quickly realized the need for a chapter at SWT. However, Soror Moss completed her studies in 1971, but her interest in bringing Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to SWT was an unquenched desire.
On April 14, 1973, the Iota Omega Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was charted.
Today, Iota Omega continues to serve the Texas State campus and the San Marcos community. We whole-heartedly believe in focusing on our major aims of promoting scholarship, sisterhood, and service to better ourselves and the greater San Marcos area. Some of the yearly programs we host are: Annual Women's Retreat, Miss Black Texas State Scholarship Pageant, Women's Awareness Walks, Delta Week, Community Service Week and Mentoring with the Youth in the San Marcos community.
